For Spiritual Directors
"Supervision is a conversation between peers that ultimately fosters the well-being of the absent other." ~ Mary Rose Bumpus
Peer Supervision takes place once a month in an online group setting. During this time, directors share what is happening in their own spirit while sitting with a directee. The purpose of supervision is to give directors a place to understand their own feelings and thoughts during their direction sessions.

Facilitated Online Peer Supervision
Kavanna House also offers facilitated online peer supervision for spiritual directors. These sessions are facilitated by Vicki Scheib, a spiritual director and an instructor for Sustainable Faith’s School of Spiritual Direction. Each session is 90 minutes in length. This facilitated online peer supervision community will have a maximum of six (6) participants.
The cost for an initial introductory session is $30/person. Following the first session, participants desiring to continue within the facilitated online supervision community will register and pay for a full year (10 sessions, no sessions in July or December) at the cost of $250. There will be no refunds provided for missed peer supervision sessions over the course of that 12-month period.
Who is required to participate
Kavanna House requires continuing education for all Spiritual Directors affiliated with Kavanna. Each of these directors is required to attend at least one of the sessions offered in 2021. Sessions for affiliated Spiritual Directors are free.
Who else can participate
Kavanna House desires to provide continuing education opportunities for Spiritual Directors who are independent of us and are seeking opportunities to grow and learn. In 2021, the fee per session for independent Spiritual Directors is $25.
What is the format for the continuing education sessions
Each session will include education on a specific topic and a question and answer time.

The Body and Contemplative Presence
The Body and Contemplative Presence:
Contemplative listening involves more than what we hear and observe. It also includes what we experience in our bodies. Our emotions are body-centered and many of us have not learned how to deeply pay attention to what is happening in our bodies.
This in-service is designed to raise your body-awareness, both personally and when offering spiritual direction and will include:
- What to notice within yourself when offering spiritual direction
- How to help directees pay attention to what is happening in their bodies
- How to ask body and emotion centered questions when offering spiritual direction
- How your own body responses in spiritual direction can guide you to deeper self-awareness and God awareness
We will also engage in two contemplative, body-centered practices that will raise your awareness of how the body aids in deepening self-awareness and can inform much of what happens when offering spiritual direction.
